Coordinating complexity across global logistics operations

Bayer’s logistics teams coordinate inbound and outbound transportation across regions, suppliers, carriers, ERP systems, manufacturing sites, and external partners. That coordination depends on keeping purchase orders, shipments, TMS loads, and material flows aligned across logistics, procurement, and manufacturing.

Fragmented data, manual follow-ups, and inconsistent communication made it harder to track activity in real time, resolve exceptions quickly, and anticipate disruptions. Bayer needed stronger tracking, alerts, and exception management, supported by shared data and greater automation, to improve transportation planning and execution across its global network.

Establishing the digital backbone for enhanced supply chain intelligence

Blue Yonder TMS and Blue Yonder Network play a central role in Bayer’s digital transformation. Bayer is using Blue Yonder TMS for transportation planning and execution, including optimized routing, real-time tracking, and digital process automation that help reduce transportation costs. The solution has also helped Bayer improve logistical coordination, strengthen collaboration with suppliers and carriers, and support end-to-end visibility.

Blue Yonder Network builds on this foundation by creating a shared, data-driven ecosystem that unifies Bayer’s broader trading partner community. The combined operational structure will help Bayer use Blue Yonder’s capabilities more effectively as they are activated across its logistics operations. The company is also strengthening process discipline, data quality, and day‑to‑day execution to ensure it is ready to activate AI‑driven capabilities. Demand, inventory, and transportation patterns can all be analyzed, while also anticipating disruptions and informing workflows.

Beyond deployment, Blue Yonder Surround Services premium support helps Bayer sustain that foundation by keeping issue resolution and operational coordination closely aligned to the logistics processes that matter most.

“We chose Blue Yonder because connected systems alone were not enough. Our logistics teams needed a stronger foundation to plan, collaborate, and respond across regions. Blue Yonder’s experience with complex international rollouts gives us confidence as we scale this model globally. As we add Blue Yonder’s Cognitive Solution capabilities, we expect to gain the intelligence and foresight to support a more agile and resilient supply chain,” says Trent.

Elevating predictive, sustainable, and scalable transportation management

Blue Yonder Transportation Management ensures optimized routing, real-time tracking, and digital process automation across Bayer’s transportation workflows, resulting in a 6 to 10% reduction in transportation costs. The integration of Blue Yonder TMS with the Transportation Management Optimization Dashboard has enabled predictive analytics and dynamic scenario modeling, delivering 1 to 2% efficiency improvements for the company during peak seasons. Its successful rollout across five countries in EMEA and APAC has streamlined inbound and outbound logistics, covering over 70% of crop protection and seed volumes in Asia. This also included a go-live of Blue Yonder TMS in new regional markets, completed within 90 days across Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan, and South Africa.

Bayer has also realized a 5% increase in cost savings through improved resource allocation and supply and inventory planning. Enhanced real-time visibility across more than 20,000 containers and over 350 users has strengthened and expanded operational control across logistics, procurement, and manufacturing. Bayer’s teams now have the insight and responsiveness needed to stay ahead of potential disruptions.

To advance Bayer’s Scope 3.4 CO2 reduction commitment—focused on emissions from upstream transportation and distribution—by 2029, Blue Yonder TMS has enabled a 2% improvement in transportation efficiency through optimized transportation planning and more efficient routing. Combined with increased asset utilization and carrier consolidation, these improvements are reducing the number of trucks on the road and further minimizing Bayer’s overall environmental footprint.

Building a unified, data-driven ecosystem across the supply chain

Blue Yonder Network consolidates logistics data from multiple ERP systems, providing real‑time insights that drive proactive exception management and automated workflows. These capabilities have improved Bayer’s shipment accuracy, reduced manual workload, and strengthened risk management processes. With the Blue Yonder Network expanding across trading partners and regions, Bayer has achieved a 90% improvement in supply chain visibility. The company has also gained true end to end line of sight from raw material suppliers through tier 1 and tier 2 partners to its own operations, enabling faster, more confident decision-making.

“We truly believe Blue Yonder Network will be a game-changer for the industry. We’re already seeing strong momentum with adoption by more than 50 providers that operate 32 crop manufacturing plants and work with over 100 suppliers across more than 60 countries. This level of engagement is giving our teams access to fact-based insights that support faster, more confident decision-making,” says Trent.

Driving transformational impact on culture and industry success

A notable outcome of Bayer’s logistics transformation has been increased job satisfaction among warehouse and transportation teams. By gaining deep familiarity with Blue Yonder’s solutions and training colleagues, super users have become key champions of change and are helping advance a true digital culture. Bayer has seen a 95% adoption rate of Blue Yonder TMS, with digital tools helping employees reduce manual effort and work more efficiently.

Advancing the next era of logistics

Bayer is elevating its digital logistics strategy with the introduction of Blue Yonder’s Cognitive Solutions for Execution. The shift to more advanced, intelligence-driven operations is poised to further shape how the company’s global supply chain evolves in the years ahead. The rollout adds new decisioning capabilities that enhance automation, strengthen predictive insight, and support a more agile, seamless, and customer-centric future.

“The way that I see Blue Yonder and Bayer is as one team on this journey. By unifying our global logistics operations on Blue Yonder and moving to its Cognitive Solutions for Execution, we’re unlocking more value across the business. That means reducing costs, improving sustainability, and strengthening the workflows, visibility, and decision-making that support continuous improvement. We expect to see the progress we’ve made continue accelerating, enabling us to operate with greater intelligence, speed, and confidence across the supply chain,” says Trent.
